Athena offers a beautiful vineyard setting, overlooking the Great Wicomico River. 15 acres with over a 20 varieties of grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc, Chambourcin, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay.
Opened in 2012, but the first grapes were planted in 2004. Waterfront farm that also can be vistited by boat. Free tours of the winery are possible. The Vineyard Restaurant offers lunch and dinner, visitors are welcome to bring their own picnics and sit outside on the vineyard-side patio.
The owners turned an old sand and gravel mine into a vineyard an winery. The earth remaining from the mine is perfect for cultivating grapevines. Wines are made on the grounds. Self-guided and employee-guided tours are available.
This vineyard gets its name from the rescue dogs that live on the grounds and protect the grapes from deer, and, obviously, from the famous Chesapeake oysters. Four varieties of grapes grow here. The two whites are Vidal Blanc and Chardonel. The two reds are Merlot and Chambourcin. When you see 2 giant corkscrews in the landscape, you might think you already sipped too much wine. But don't worry, the corkscrews only signal that you've arrived.
